Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Production Staff
The goal for this show was to keep the cost down to a minimum, but keep the production value high, as this was mostly a kid's show. I have labeled my enrollment with this show as production staff because I was just that - I designed the lights, the sound, the props, and the scenic. I was also the Stage Manager for the entire run. For the set design, most of the play took place in the church sanctuary. As I was trying to make the set on a low budget and could not source any church pews locally within the budget, I decided to build everything from scratch.
The Pews: The church pews were made from 2x12 and 2x10 boards, with the edges ripped off one side and joined together to create the pew's seats, backs, and end caps. I created a template to make the endcaps using vintage church pews. I then painted and stained the pews with small wooden crosses on the end.
The Stained Glass: To help create the church backdrop and set the scene, I projected and painted simple stained glass windows. The kids in the cast colored sheets of paper to design the stained glass windows. We voted on the top windows, and then I had the kids paint the stained glass windows on the flats.
Spot Light aiming tool: For this show, I created an aiming device that attaches to spot lights. This device helps teach volunteers how to aim and hit the target when it is time to use the spot lights.Â
